Program Description

Heavy Equipment Operator is a 3 year, 6000 hour Program that combines on-the-job experience with 480 hours of classroom and lab experience.

Level One students receive 160 hours of Classroom and Lab instruction in basic areas such as safety, construction math, use of hand tools and power tools.  It progresses to identification of heavy equipment, basic operational techniques, utility tractors, grades, and OSHA regulations.

Level Two students receive 160 hours of Classroom and Lab instruction in areas such as earthmoving, operation of dump trucks, rollers, scrapers, loaders and forklifts.  Excavation math, grades and civil blueprint reading prepare the student to move earth and level sites.

Level Three students receive 160 hours of Classroom and Lab instruction in areas such as leading a crew, operating dozers, backhoes, excavators, and motor graders.  Students learn how to finish and grade sites, using knowledge of differing soils and advanced operational techniques.
